A... read more private tour goes at your pace and the tour guide will adjust their delivery for you knowledge level and interests. The Vatican museums were not busy in these times during CO I'D, and we found an amazing guide for the day in Chara, whose encyclopedic knowledge of Roma and the Vatican was punctuated with an awesome delivery and a good sense of humor. We saw all the highlights, through a three hour tour of St Peter's Basilica and the museums, and she left us right before the Sisteen Chapel with ample instructions on how to spend the rest of the day in the museum, where to get the good coffee at the end of the tour, and how to get back to our hotel. She was, in a word, the perfect tour guide. Hints for booking. Pre-book the tour before leaving, and get the skip the lines version. It will save some time. I'm sure the effect is bigger when there are lines; even so, I saw a few instances where we went through rope barriers to avoid lines. To me, the highlight of the tour was not the chapel itself (although that was impressive), but the other art along the way. Keep an open mind and spend some time exploring! …

Marco our guide made the experience visiting St. Peter’s, the Vatican and Sistine chapel very memorable. It was very interesting to learn about the details pertaining to the history of everything involved. We never would have known what these meant or what the artist meant with out his knowledge!   This was, no exaggeration, the best tour we went on while in Rome. It was also the most expensive, but well worth the money. Firstly, the tour operators showed... read more their professionalism before we even booked the tour, when they replied to a question we had (whether the tour actually includes St. Peter's Basilica; we'd seen elsewhere that it may have been closed due to Covid, which thankfully wasn't the case, as we wanted the tour to include all 3 key Vatican locations) quickly and explained everything we needed to know. They also sent us a message, in both email and SMS form, with some relevant information the night before the tour. Secondly, the tour itself was by far the most memorable out of the 4 we went on (the other 3 obviously weren't Vatican tours so this may be like comparing apples to oranges, but the fact remains) in Rome. Marco was a delightful tour guide, he made the tour interesting, engaging and funny, and we almost never felt the 3- 3,5 hour length of the tour. We also kept a steady pace throughout, with only a bit of hurrying between the Basilica and the Vatican Museums. We came out of the tour feeling like we've learned plenty, and much of the information extended to the rest of our stay, like being able to recognize some of the symbolism and family crests in other places throughout Rome. We really can't recommend it enough, it was one of the highlights of our trip.
