  Really brilliant tour. Definitely best to book because the queues outside were really long. Our tour guide, Amil, was brilliant. She was incredibly knowledgeable and took all kinds of questions.... read more She covered academics, history, details of much of the artwork but it was all done in a fascinating way full of humour. The tour goes through rooms in the Vatican leading to the Sistine chapel (you aren’t allowed to talk inside so the guide explains everything in advance which great). The tour then moved via a special route for guided groups to St Peter’s Basilica where it concludes. If you do the English tour in the morning don’t book another tour afterwards because once the tour ends you can spend more time wandering around the Basilica. Amil explained that we could go down in the crypt (free) or climb into the dome (10 euros to take lift before climbing the rest on foot). Definitely do this- there’s a cafe up on the roof with great views.
